The Donut Shop of Eagle Bay was opened in 1966 by Barbara Wood. The first day she worked she sold 6 dozen donuts. By the end of her 37 year career she sold several hundred a day. In the summer of 2004 Pat Rowe came to work with Barb and learned the business first hand. The Adirondack tradition continued when Pat reopened the shop on November 7, 2003. History repeated itself, 6 dozen were sold that first day. We hope that we shall see the same success that Mrs. Wood did. Since 2003 The Donut Shop has been open year round.
Pat and her husband, David relocated from Lockport, New York. Dave's family had vacationed in the Old Forge area all his life. Dave shared his love of the area with Pat on their honeymoon and for 20 years vacationing. Going to The Donut Shop had been a once a week tradition when they were camping at Eighth Lake with Jonathan and Michael while they were growing up.
Since owning The Donut Shop they have enjoyed watching the families bring their little ones to shop and seeing the children grow. One of the highlights since owning the shop was having a man come to the window and introduced his son, grandson, and great-grandson. he was very proud of the fact that he had brought all of them there since they were little. Of course the youngest one was not eating donuts yet ... but you have to start training early he told me. What a wonderful tradition to carry on.
Pat and Dave are living their dream in the area that they love the most. In the summer (June-Aug) the Donut Shop is opened 7am-3pm EVERYDAY of the week. From September till may they are CLOSED on WEDNESDAY. If vacations are taken it is in November or April.
We hope that when you are in the Old Forge area you will take time to stop and visit us at the The Donut Shop that is nestled in the woods.
